Selection Process

• Phase 1: Screening Test (Multiple-choice exam to shortlist candidates)
• Phase 2: Service Assessment (ACRs) (Evaluation of Annual Confidential Reports)
• Phase 3: Interview (Personal interaction to assess suitability)

• The Screening Test consists of 100 multiple-choice questions.
• Each question carries 1 mark, making the total marks 100.
• A negative marking of -0.25 is applied for every incorrect answer.
• Candidates must score a minimum of 30% marks to qualify for the next stage.
• The duration of the examination is 2 hours.
• The medium of the exam is typically English and Punjabi.

1. Civics

• Political Theory: Concepts of State, Government, Democracy, Liberty, Equality, Justice.
• Forms of Government: Parliamentary, Presidential, Unitary, Federal.
• Local Self-Government: Panchayati Raj and Municipalities.
• International Relations: Major international organizations and their roles.

2. Constitution of India

• Preamble: Philosophy and objectives.
• Fundamental Rights and Duties: Articles and their implications.
• Directive Principles of State Policy: Importance and implementation.
• Union and State Executive: President, Prime Minister, Governor, Chief Minister.
• Union and State Legislature: Parliament, State Assemblies, legislative procedures.
• Judiciary: Supreme Court, High Courts, Judicial Review.
• Constitutional Amendments: Major amendments and their impact.

3. Indian History

• Ancient India: Indus Valley Civilization, Vedic Period, Mauryan and Gupta Empires, Buddhism and Jainism.
• Medieval India: Delhi Sultanate, Mughal Empire, Bhakti and Sufi Movements.
• Modern India: Advent of Europeans, British Rule, Indian National Movement, Post-Independence consolidation.

4. Geography

• Physical Geography: Earth's structure, atmosphere, oceans, climate, major landforms.
• Indian Geography: Physical divisions, climate, rivers, soils, natural vegetation, agriculture, minerals, industries, population.
• World Geography: Major continents, oceans, climate zones, important geographical features.

5. General Science

• Physics: Units and measurements, motion, force, energy, light, sound, electricity, magnetism.
• Chemistry: States of matter, atomic structure, chemical reactions, acids, bases, salts, common elements and compounds.
• Biology: Human body systems, nutrition, diseases, plant and animal kingdom, genetics, environmental science.
• Everyday Science: Applications of science in daily life.

6. Punjabi

• Punjabi Grammar: Nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, tenses, sentence structure.
• Vocabulary: Synonyms, antonyms, idioms, proverbs.
• Comprehension: Reading comprehension passages.
• Composition: Essay writing, letter writing.

7. English

• English Grammar: Parts of speech, tenses, voice, narration, articles, prepositions, subject-verb agreement.
• Vocabulary: Synonyms, antonyms, one-word substitutions, idioms and phrases.
• Comprehension: Reading comprehension passages.
• Composition: Essay writing, precis writing, letter writing.

8. History of Punjab

• Ancient Punjab: Early settlements, Vedic period, foreign invasions.
• Medieval Punjab: Rise of Sikhism, Sikh Gurus, Mughal-Sikh conflicts.
• Modern Punjab: Sikh Misls, Maharaja Ranjit Singh, Anglo-Sikh Wars, British annexation, Partition of Punjab, Post-Independence Punjab.

9. General Knowledge

• Current Affairs: National and International events, awards, sports, important personalities.
• Static GK: Indian economy, banking, general policy, scientific research, important days.
• Punjab Specific GK: Culture, economy, administration, prominent personalities of Punjab.

• Understand the Syllabus and Exam Pattern: Begin by thoroughly analyzing the official syllabus and exam pattern to identify key subjects and their weightage.
