IBPS RRB Clerk Syllabus & Exam Pattern 2026

Selection Process

• Phase 1: Preliminary Examination
• Phase 2: Main Examination
• Phase 3: No Interview for Clerk Post

• Negative Marking: A deduction of 0.25 marks will be applied for each incorrect answer in both Prelims and Mains.
• Mode of Exam: Both Preliminary and Main examinations are conducted online.
• Sectional Timing: Each section in both Prelims and Mains has a separate time limit, requiring candidates to manage their time efficiently per section.
• Language of Exam: The exam will be available in English and Hindi, along with regional languages as per the state.

Reasoning Ability Syllabus

• Alphabet/Number/Symbol Series: Questions based on sequences of alphabets, numbers, or symbols.
• Inequality: Direct and coded inequalities.
• Syllogism: Deductive reasoning based on given statements and conclusions.
• Order & Ranking: Arranging persons or items based on their position or attributes.
• Coding-Decoding: Deciphering codes and patterns.
• Direction-sense: Problems based on directions and distances.
• Blood-Relation: Family tree and relationship-based questions.
• Seating Arrangement: Circular, Triangular, Rectangular, Square, and Linear arrangements.
• Puzzles: Box-based, Floor or Floor-flat-based, Day/Month/Year-Based, Comparison, Categorized, and Uncertain Puzzles.
• Miscellaneous: Data Sufficiency, Machine Input-Output, Verbal & Critical Reasoning.

Quantitative Aptitude Syllabus

• Simplification & Approximation: BODMAS, Square & Cube, Square & cube root, Indices, Fraction, Percentage calculations.
• Number Series: Missing Number series, Wrong number series.
• Inequality: Linear equation, Quadratic equation, Quantity comparison.
• Arithmetic: Ratio and Proportion, Percentage, Number System, HCF and LCM, Average, Age, Partnership, Mixture and Alligation, Simple Interest, Compound Interest, Time and Work, Pipe and Cistern, Profit & Loss and Discount, Speed Time Distance, Boat And Stream, Train, Mensuration 2D and 3D, Probability, Permutation and Combination.
• Data Interpretation: Table DI, Missing Table DI, Pie chart DI, Line chart DI, Bar chart DI, Mixed DI, Caselet.

General Awareness Syllabus (Mains Only)

• Financial/Banking Awareness: Banking and Economy facts, roles and functions of institutions, currencies, international trade, acquisitions, policies, trade deficits, exchange rate, GDP growth.
• Current Affairs: Knowledge of surroundings and everyday events, banking and economy-related news, national and international news, books, new appointments, government schemes & policies.
• General Knowledge/Static Awareness: Science, environmental facts, capital currency, important dams, sanctuaries, power plants, stadiums, bank headquarters, airports, cabinet reshuffle, GST, resignations & new appointments.

English Language Syllabus (Mains Only)

• Reading Comprehension: Passages focused on Banking & Economy, Business, Social Issues, Fact and Inference, Vocab & Theme based questions.
• Error Spotting & Phrase Replacement: Identifying grammatical errors, incorrect/correct sentence identification, Phrase Replacement/Sentence Correction.
• Cloze Test: Filling blanks in a passage with appropriate words.
• Para Jumbles/Sentence Jumble/Odd Sentence Out: Rearranging sentences to form a coherent paragraph, identifying the irrelevant sentence.
• Fill in the Blanks/Sentence Completion/Para Completion: Completing sentences or paragraphs with suitable words or phrases.
• Word Formation: Questions based on synonyms or antonyms.

Hindi Language Syllabus (Mains Only)

• व्याकरण (Grammar): संज्ञा, सर्वनाम, विशेषण, क्रिया, अव्यय, संधि, समास, उपसर्ग, प्रत्यय, पर्यायवाची, विलोम शब्द, मुहावरे और लोकोक्तियाँ।
• गद्यांश (Comprehension): अपठित गद्यांश पर आधारित प्रश्न।
• वाक्य शुद्धि (Sentence Correction): वाक्यों में त्रुटि पहचानना और सुधारना।
• रिक्त स्थान पूर्ति (Fill in the Blanks): उपयुक्त शब्दों से रिक्त स्थानों की पूर्ति।
• शब्द ज्ञान (Vocabulary): शब्द-युग्म, अनेकार्थी शब्द, एकार्थी शब्द।

Computer Knowledge Syllabus (Mains Only)

• Fundamentals of Computers: Basic concepts, history, generations of computers.
• Hardware & Software: Input/Output devices, memory, operating systems, application software.
• Networking & Internet: Types of networks, protocols, web browsers, email.
• MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access basics.
• Database Management System (DBMS): Basic concepts.
• Cyber Security: Viruses, malware, internet security.
• Number System: Binary, decimal, hexadecimal conversions.

• Create a Study Plan: Develop a realistic daily and weekly study schedule, allocating sufficient time to each subject based on your strengths and weaknesses.

• Stay Updated with Current Affairs: For the Mains exam, regularly read newspapers, magazines, and online resources to stay updated on General Awareness, especially banking and financial news.
