Selection Process

• Phase 1: Preliminary Examination (Objective Type)
• Phase 2: Mains Examination (Subjective Type)
• Phase 3: Computer Knowledge Test (Typing & Formatting)

• Negative Marking: There is no negative marking in the Preliminary Examination.
• Qualifying Marks: Candidates must secure a minimum of 50 marks out of 150 in the Mains Examination to qualify.
• Language of Paper: Stage-I (Preliminary) is bilingual (English & Hindi), except for language sections. Stage-II (Mains) involves English and Hindi translation/comprehension. Stage-III (Computer Test) is in English.
• Computer Test Requirement: A minimum speed of 25 Words Per Minute (WPM) is required in the English Typing Test.

Stage-I: Preliminary Examination Syllabus

• (A) General Science

  • Basic principles of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
  • Everyday scientific phenomena and their applications.
  • Recent scientific and technological developments.

• (B) History of India

  • Ancient, Medieval, and Modern Indian history.
  • Major dynasties, empires, and their significant contributions.
  • Social, economic, and cultural history of India.

• (C) Indian National Movement

  • The Indian freedom struggle and its various phases.
  • Important movements like the 1857 Revolt, Non-Cooperation, Civil Disobedience, and Quit India Movement.
  • Role of prominent leaders and constitutional developments.

• (D) Indian Polity, Economy and Culture

  • Constitution of India: features, Fundamental Rights, Duties, Directive Principles.
  • Governance structure: Parliament, Executive, Judiciary.
  • Basic economic concepts: budget, GDP, inflation, economic planning.
  • Indian culture, art, heritage, and literature.

• (E) Indian Agriculture, Commerce and Trade

  • Cropping patterns, irrigation systems, and agricultural policies.
  • Internal and external trade dynamics.
  • Commerce and business organizations, banking, and finance.

• (F) Population, Ecology and Urbanisation (in Indian Context)

  • Demographics and population policies in India.
  • Ecological systems, biodiversity, and environmental conservation.
  • Urbanization trends, associated problems, and policy measures in India.

• (G) World Geography and Geography and Resources of India

  • Physical geography: landforms, climate, vegetation.
  • Human geography and its aspects.
  • Location of India, its natural resources (water, land, forests, minerals).
  • Distribution of industries across India.

• (H) Current National and International Important Events

  • Recent major events in politics, economics, science, technology, sports, and awards.
  • Significant international relations and developments (covering 12-18 months prior to the exam).

• (I) General Aptitude

  • Logical reasoning and analytical ability.
  • Data interpretation and problem-solving.
  • Numerical ability: basic arithmetic, averages, percentages, ratios.
  • Spatial visualization skills.

• (J) Special Knowledge regarding Education, Culture, Agriculture, Industry, Trade, Living and Social Traditions of Uttar Pradesh

  • History and cultural heritage of Uttar Pradesh.
  • Festivals, folk arts, and education system of UP.
  • Agricultural practices, industries, trade, and commerce in UP.
  • Social customs, traditions, and notable personalities of Uttar Pradesh.

• (K) Knowledge of General English and General Hindi at the graduation level

  • General English: Grammar (tenses, articles, prepositions, subject-verb agreement), vocabulary (synonyms, antonyms), comprehension (reading passages), sentence correction, para-jumbling.
  • General Hindi: समानार्थी, विलोम, वाक्यांशों के लिए एक शब्द, कारक, संधि-विच्छेद, समास, मुहावरे एवं लोकोक्तियाँ, वाक्यों का शुद्धिकरण, अपठित गद्यांश।

• (L) Elementary Knowledge of Computers

  • Basic computer hardware and software concepts.
  • Operating systems, MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Internet and email usage.
  • Data entry, word processing concepts, and common computer terminology (RAM, ROM, CPU).

Stage-II: Mains Examination Syllabus

• A. Essay Writing in English

  • Candidates will write an essay of approximately 200 words.
  • Evaluates conceptual clarity, relevance to topic, logical structure, and language proficiency.

• B. Precis Writing in English

  • Summarizing a given passage concisely while retaining core ideas.
  • Assesses identification of main points, proportional reduction, clarity, and grammar.

• C. Translation

  • English to Hindi Translation: Accuracy of meaning, appropriate terminology, formal tone, grammar, and sentence structure.
  • Hindi to English Translation: Similar criteria focusing on accuracy, terminology, tone, and grammar.

• D. Comprehension in English

  • Answering questions based on a given English passage.
  • Evaluates accuracy of responses, analytical understanding, and clarity of expression.

Stage-III: Computer Knowledge Test Syllabus

• Candidates will reproduce an English passage of approximately 500 words on the computer.
• Focuses on formatting and typing accuracy.
• Requires scoring 25 marks out of 50 and achieving a minimum speed of 25 WPM.

• Understand the Syllabus: Thoroughly go through the detailed syllabus and exam pattern for both Preliminary and Mains stages. Identify high-weightage topics.
• Create a Study Plan: Develop a realistic daily and weekly study schedule, allocating sufficient time to each subject based on your strengths and weaknesses.
• Focus on General Studies: Since General Studies forms a significant portion, dedicate ample time to History, Polity, Geography, Science, and Current Affairs.
• Master Languages: Pay special attention to General English and General Hindi, as they are crucial for both Prelims and Mains. Practice grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension.
• Uttar Pradesh GK: Acquire in-depth knowledge of Uttar Pradesh's specific history, culture, agriculture, and industries, as it's a dedicated section.
• Practice Computer Skills: Regularly practice typing in English to achieve the required 25 WPM speed and familiarize yourself with basic MS Office functions for the Computer Knowledge Test.
• Solve Previous Year Papers: Analyze previous year's question papers to understand the exam's difficulty level, question types, and important topics.
• Mock Tests: Take regular mock tests to simulate exam conditions, improve time management, and identify areas needing improvement.
• Revision: Consistent revision of all subjects is key to retaining information and strengthening your understanding.
